Giant Steps is a group of all-star musicians who have come together from Atlanta, New York, San Francisco, and as far as Cameroon, Africa to perform classic jazz standards. Together they recognized that this was a genre in their enormous and varied local music scene that needed to be represented. While each member has numerous individual musical ventures, they all share a connection to the timeless beauty of jazz music. They feature Richard Jones on drums, Ray Sayre on guitar, Fred Doumbe on bass, Gary Regina on saxophones\flute and Lorraine Gervais on vocals. They took the name, Giant Steps, to honor a formidable legend in contemporary jazz music, John Coltrane. At their shows, they offer up tunes that span the length of the 20th century. The long list includes Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzie Gillespie, Billy Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, Miles Davis, Bill Evans, Nat King Cole, Astrud Gilberto, Charlie Parker, Etta James, Chick Corea, and Michael Brecker. Currently, they perform at the fabulous Golden Era Lounge in Nevada City, Ca the third Thursday of every month and are looking to widen their range of cities along the West coast in the coming year.
