Lolo Gervais has a well-earned reputation for pushing musical boundaries and being on a mission to make new sounds old and yet new again. Stirring up a mix of classic modern pop tunes into a fun Neo Vintage Jazz Party soundtrack— vocalist Lorraine Gervais belts out over a strong backdrop of mean ragtime/boogaloo/funky stride piano, standup bass, horn riffs, gypsy guitar & slammin drumbeats. In the hands of this inventive & genre-bashing Northern Ca-based group, modern tunes are recreated into swinging 20's & 30's, New Orleans funky boogaloo, swanky 50's & 60's, classic 70's soul/funk & beyond. The band calls it "serious antiquing". Think Paula Abdul meets Louis Armstrong, with Daft Punk, Michael Jackson, or the Clash running headlong into a funky 1920's swing, the Bangles laying on top of classic Elvis blues, Kenny Loggins grooving over old New Orleans beats, Train getting all jazzed up with African Highlife grooves, or even DNCE reimagined with Stevie Wonder funkiness. Lolo brings a sense of old school jazzy swank and rhythm to their shows that appeals to both pop and jazz lovers and everyone else in between as tunes get morphed into something altogether new.
Lolo's 3 albums carry on the band's commitment to the idea that modern pop music can be engaging and accessible with seriously tricked out arrangements, rhythms and phrasings with a sense of adventure all at the same time. As Gervais puts it, “With our music, we believe that old and new, serious and fun can all be mixed up together without teeming over with all the irony that seems to be everywhere—it’s all just great music played by pros who want to have a good time.”
The heart of the collaboration began when bandleader Jacob Aginsky met Lorraine Gervais in the summer of 2014 and they decided to throw their talents & loads of crazy experiences in together to see what they could come up with. Both had had years of performing & music production, mentoring, recording, touring and support of such diverse acts as Pink, Chris Isaak, Niki Minaj, Mavis Staples & Etta James, to name a very few. So the two performed together in a handful of performances and ended up with a brand new band of like minded bon vivants dedicated to the new musical cause. Word grew from their Pop-Up Nightclubs, festival and club appearances, and parties galore— that Lolo's merger of modern and old is actually pretty cool.
"They took the stage and proceeded to raise the roof,” according to one reviewer at the Lincoln Center in Fort Collins, CO. “The music they produce is sublime & hilarious, and the performances are full of some serious kickass playing.”

"The jazzy/bluesy stylings of Lolo Gervais and her accomplished sidemen infuses vitality and brings to life songs originally designed for the commercial top 40 market. These new arrangements, greatly enhanced by the adventurous chordal voicings of pianist Jacob ...... strips away the excessive pop dross in the original productions to reveal the core essence of the songs through Lolo's passionate singing. As a genuine chanteuse with impeccable taste, Gervais makes these songs her own, drawing favorable comparisons to Edith Piaf and Josephine Baker but with a very unique and highly soulful take on these modern classics."

"When I discovered Lolo Gervais, I knew I had found the absolutely perfect group. The lead singer, Lorraine Gervais, with her velvety soulful voice and original renditions of songs and Jacob Aginsky on piano -- where did he learn to play like that? Pure entertainment! Anyway I could go on about the other stellar musicians too- magic! Everyone was lined up at the door a half hour before we opened and at the end they made me promise to please, please have Lolo Gervais play again next year… the best party we'd thrown so far!"
